Q. How do I get a horse?
A. Takakura will bring a horse to you after the first Summer. He can't bring a horse while you're ordering items, animals or the Miracle Potion, so stop ordering them around that time. However, be sure to keep shipping your crops or produce so that he will go to the town to sell them, and he will bring you a horse when he comes back.
Q. I'm engaged. When will I get married?
A. At the end of the first chapter.
Q. I linked my game with Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. How do I know if I did it correctly?
A. Make sure you have good save games on both sides. Follow the instructions in the manual. Make sure your GBA is turned off when you begin to link. Always initiate the linking from A Wonderful Life by trying to go up the hill. Then turn on your GBA and go to talk to the Harvest Goddess. Once you're done linking, try talking to the townspeople. If they start talking about the other town (i.e. "I heard the farmer in Mineral Town is filthy rich." in A Wonderful Life), you've done it correctly. But, if you have just started playing both games, and there is nothing for the townspeople to talk about, the only way for you to know if you've done it correctly is by the star marks given to you when you link. Also, Van and Ruby become the key persons when you link, so be sure to become good friends with them!
Q. My first cow stopped producing milk. What should I do?
A. Your cows produce milk for 40 days after giving birth. Your first cow produces milk during the first year. Plan ahead so that you don't run out of milk!
Q. I bought a cow, but she's not producing milk. Why?
A. The cows you buy are still young. It takes 30 days for them to grow. Then, they have to give birth to start producing milk, which takes another 30 days. So, plan ahead!
Q. How many hearts does a girl have to have before I propose to her?
A. She needs to have at least 3 hearts to hear a good answer when you give her the Blue Feather. However, even if she didn't say yes, or you don't propose to anyone, there are events to guide you to get married. So, don't worry! You'll be fine!
Q. I know how to sell my dairy products, but how do I sell my crops or other items?
A. You can sell them to Van (See the calendar on the wall for his schedule. He also comes when he feels like it.) or, you open a stand right by where Van opens his stand. Go up to the tree and press the A Button.
Q. Are there festivals and yearly events? No one comes to tell me on the day before... How do I attend them?
A. Those who have played our Harvest Moon series might be waiting for one of the townspeople to come to your farm to invite you to the festivals on the day before... Sorry. In Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, you have to trigger them by going to people's houses during a certain period of time.
Q. Can I use a memory card that is not an official Nintendo GameCube Memory Card?
A. NO!! Always use an official Nintendo GameCube Memory Card. The game does not support non-licensed memory cards, so your game may not be saved correctly, and sometimes you won't be able to keep playing the game.
Q. Can I get some detailed information about the crops, recipes, items, etc...?
A. You can visit http://www.nintendo.com/np/harvestmoon for more information.
Q. I bought a goat. After a while, she stopped producing milk. What can I do?
A. She'll be your pet. You cannot have her produce milk like cows any more. You cannot sell her, either. Even if she is not profitable, please be nice to her, okay?
Q. How do I get a pond and other house extensions?
A. Go to the same order sheet as the animals and the tools. The extensions become available as you progress.
Q. I'm always tired and hungry. What can I do?
A. Be sure to eat well and sleep well. As you work on the field and take care of your animals, you'll become stronger. If you have a horse, riding him recovers your energy as well.
Q. How do I get ducks?
A. You have to have a pond. You must have less than 6 chickens. The event happens on a non-rainy day after the Summer of the 2nd year. If you already have a duck, you won't get them any more.
Q. The weather forecast is not reliable!
A. The weather forecast by the guy with a straw hat is much more accurate than the other guy. Keep tuning in to find his forecast.
Q. What is that shed on my farm that doesn't open? What can I do to open it?
A. It's just there. It never opens. There is nothing you can do to open it. It's an object which you cannot interact with, just like trees in the forest in the game.
Q. How do I get a better fishing pole?
A. From Galen. Befriend him.
Q. What do I have to do to have Tartan hybrid crops?
A. Befriend him.
Q. Or better yet, how do I get Tartan?
A. Befriend Takakura. Work hard on your farm. Starting at the beginning of the 2nd chapter, visit Takakura's house between 5 and 10PM when he's at home.
Q. I have a fishing pole, but I can't seem to catch a fish successfully...
A. Cast the lure and wait until a big splash. Then press the A Button to reel in.
Q. My ducks don't lay eggs...
A. How do you know they don't lay eggs? You cannot visually tell the difference between a chicken egg and a duck egg, the ducks don't sit on their eggs, and the chickens have a habit to sit on any eggs when they are around... The only way you can tell if it's a chicken egg or duck egg is to hutch it.
Q. How do I cook recipes other than soup and salad?
A. You need to practice making soups and salads with different ingredients to level up your cooking skills to unlock other recipes.
Q. Can I actually awake the Harvest Goddess in the forest?
A. There is no Harvest Goddess in Forget-Me-Not Valley. The Harvest Sprites are implying that you should work hard and connect with Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town to get more wonderful things.
Q. Can I train my dog to help me on the farm?
A. Your dog will get attached to you as a pet, but you cannot train your dog to help you on your farm.
Q. How about the Harvest Sprites? Do they help me like they do in Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town?
A. No. They help you to link with Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, though.
Q. What do those unique tools do?
A. The tools you get from the townspeople, such as the strange tools and the weird tools make you skill up and build your strength faster than your normal tools do. So, you'll be able to work faster and longer without collapsing.
